How to Get to Refugio Río Cisnes

We are on the Carretera Austral, Km 468, Puente Cisnes sector, Villa Amengual, Lago Verde commune, Aysén Region.

Distance from Coyhaique and Puyuhuapi: from Coyhaique it’s 133 km, about 2 hours 20 minutes. From Puyuhuapi it’s 87.8 km, about 1 hour 45 minutes. Both routes run along the Carretera Austral (Route 7).

If you have no signal: we can guide you on road conditions and how to find us once you arrive. If possible, message us on WhatsApp before leaving areas with coverage to let us know your estimated arrival time.

Once here, you can walk the Río Cisnes Trail just outside the refugio (2.3 km, 30 to 60 minutes), explore Villa Amengual and the surrounding area, or continue on to Queulat National Park, about 70 km away.

Villa Amengual is the village where the refugio is located, in the Lago Verde commune: a small rural community on the Carretera Austral, easy to explore on foot. If you need help finding anything — a mechanic, a shop, somewhere to eat — any neighbor can point you in the right direction.

How to Get to Queulat and What to See

Queulat National Park and the Hanging Glacier (Ventisquero Colgante) are about 70 km from the refugio, roughly 1 hour along the Carretera Austral (Route 7). We’re the natural stop before or after your visit: coffee, wood-fired pizza, hot showers, a wood stove and local route guidance. Check-in from 3:00 to 7:00 pm — arriving later? Message us beforehand on WhatsApp and we’ll coordinate your arrival.

Park conditions, hours, access and closures can change. Before you travel, always check the official information from CONAF (conaf.cl) and Pases Parques.

The official CONAF campsite at the Ventisquero Colgante sector has been closed since April 2026 (verified 09/08/2026: still closed). The campsite that is still operating in Queulat is closed on Sundays and Mondays, with entry only until 2:30 pm.

What to See in the Queulat Area

• Ventisquero Colgante — Mirador trail, 3 km round trip. The most photographed attraction on the Carretera Austral.
• Laguna Témpanos — turquoise glacial lake. Boat trips in summer.
• Cascada Padre García — short trail to a 30 m waterfall in evergreen forest.
• Lago Risopatrón — fly fishing for trout and salmon, kayaking, near Puyuhuapi.
• Fiordo Queulat — dolphin and sea lion watching, sea kayaking.
• Bosque siempreverde patagónico — 154,000 ha of coigüe, tepa and tepú; habitat for pudú, condor, Magellanic woodpecker and black-necked swan.

The park requires an entry ticket purchased in advance at conaf.cl. We can guide you on road conditions, opening hours, and which area is worth visiting depending on the time you have.
